Dar residents to benefit from solar home solution

Rex Energy
A New solar energy long-term solution has been launched in Tanzania, targeting to serve about 1.5 million households by 2030.
Solar energy solution provider -Rex Energy- in collaboration with Solaric, has launched the 3G+ Solar Home System (3G+ SHS), the first solar home solution.
Available in pay-as-you-go model the technology enables customers to purchase and use the solar system after an upfront payment of at least 15 per cent. The remaining payments can be made within 12 months through mobile money systems.
The technology was launched in Dar es Salaam yesterday by the  Acting Commissioner for Renewable Energy Paul Kiwere on behalf of the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Eng Ngosi Mwihava. He said the country’s economic development largely depends on availability of stable energy.
Praising the partnership of Solaric and Rex Energy, he expressed the government’s commitment towards supporting initiatives engineered by the country’s private sector and said:
“I call upon all private sector enterprises and NGOs to join hands with the government to promote a truly sustainable and inclusive development, notably in rural areas.”
Explaining about the system works, the Didar Islam Managing Director of Solaric, said it was developed in Bangladesh and tested in both India and Malaysia. He said it proved ideal for rural electrification.
He explained: “Most solar systems give customers an opportunity to light up their homes. This goes beyond light enabling them to use all electricity powered gadgets such as TV sets and computers.”
He said the partnership will see his firm injecting nearly USD450million.
Francis Kibhisa, the Rex Energy Managing Director, told reporters: “We’re striving to be ahead of the pack in providing solar energy solutions to the market. With the launch of 3G+SHS, I guarantee our customers the best SHS solution for all their needs.”
He said about 2,500 jobs would be created in the process and the technology is expected to be rolled out across the country.
